Dark fabric requires white chalk to draw quilting guide lines. Bohin's mechanical pencil has fine tip you can draw with precision. You would want to have 2 pens so you can leave white chalk in one and darker colored chalk in another for lighter colored fabrics. This is my go to tool!

Some quilts are intended to be show quilts. Which means I have no plan to launder those prior to display. I still need to mark my quilts for hand quilting yet I don't want lines to be visible with inks. That's when I use Hera Marker from Clover. It works like a magic on both dark and light fabric! Keep in mind you want to use Hera with cutting mat. Pressure you apply to mark your quilts with Hera marker will damage the surface of your table. Cutting mat for this instance isn't for cutting but simply a protection.

Quilting stencil design I like is called Bishop's Fan. I match the edge of stencil design from the previous round to perfectly match the next round. Quilting stencil is available to purchase on Amazon yet I find it's much cheaper to buy on manufacture's websites directly. If you are planning to pick up multiple stencils at once, consider paying for shipping (with a possibility of not able to return )and pay less per stencil. It all depends on how much to buy but I find it's much more economical this way.
